The Boo Box!

posted by Zach | 8:00 am | 3.2.2010

Well kids... the wait is over. You were waiting for this, right? Ok, good.

Our second e.p., The Boo Box is now available for consumption via itunes, CD Baby, and, most importantly, Bull Moose Music in Maine and New Hampshire (buy local!).

Folks, these days are treacherous for the independent artist or music group. There are no guarantees that fame is waiting at the end of the road if you work hard enough, or that you'll even break even on the money spent to record and promote an album. But we knew that going into that. Our only hope is that we can share what we consider to be great music with people who care just as deeply for the underdog with the guitar.

So cheers, lovers of independent rock and roll! The Holy Boys are here with 5 brand new songs to help keep the dream alive, and we hope you'll share our excitement on the 13th at the Empire for our CD release party. I can absolutely, surely and without a shadow of a doubt guarantee you that it will be more fun than you've had all winter. Unless you got a go-kart for Christmas or something.

We can't top that. We just can't. No one can!

The Return of the Holy Boys

posted by Zach | 10:45 am | 2.19.2010

Ladies and gentlemen... I must apologize for the incredibly long period of time between updates. However, I return with a plethora of kick-ass news!

Listen... Do you hear that? That's the sound of new rock, people! That's right, we've added two new tracks from our upcoming e.p., The Boo Box to the site. The record is completed and ready to be put in your waiting hands on March 2! If you even remotely enjoyed our first record, well then get a load of this bad boy! I particularly like it because it gives me a chance to use that phrase, "get a load of this". Go ahead, take a load.

In all seriousness, we put a ton of work into The Boo Box and had some of Portland's finest on our team, including Jon Wyman, Spencer Albee, and TJ Metcalfe, among others, as well as Robbie Kanner working on the album art. You could say we scored big time. I would. Here's a look at the cover Robbie designed for us:

To celebrate the release of the new record, we'll be having a release show at the Empire Dine and Dance on Congress St. in Portland, ME on MARCH 13th. We've been lucky enough to get our good friends from Dead Man's Clothes and Fly Upright Kite to share in the fun that night, so if you're thinking about not coming, think again. You like rock music, don't you? That's what I thought.

Once again, apologies for neglecting the site for so long, but to make up for it, every section has been updated for your HBDC pleasure. New photos, videos, behind-the-scenes ridiculousness and, of course, new songs.

HOLY BOYS DANGER CLUB is back on the prowl in 2010, baby. We hope you'll join us.

The Legend of "Miek"

posted by Zach | 3:00 am | 9.25.2009

So here it is... the answer to the question that has been eating you up inside, day and night, and causing the ulcer you are too scared to ask the doctor about because you think it might be cancer or something and sometimes not knowing is better for you, emotionally.

Question: How, exactly, did Michael Roch Albert Rodrigue, aka Dr. Four-Names, wind up with the moniker "Miek"? A simple typographical error that has long gone unnoticed, perhaps? Nope, you're way off. Is it based purely in irony, seeing as how Miek (pr. "meek) is anything but? Guess again, Einstein.

Legend: First, to continue to stir the gossip-pot, I'll give you the legend I was told when I first met the man. Until I recently requested clarification, the story I was told was that Miek had misspelled his own name on a 2nd grade spelling test (natch), one of his classmates found out and subsequently spread the word. Hilarious, no?

Real (boring) Answer: One of Miek's childhood friends and now good friend to the Danger Club, Erik Moody, was engaged in an instant message session with Miek in 8th grade. Upon realizing that Miek was not responding to his messages, young Erik started repeatedly typing "mike mike mike mike" and, in what can only be described as a lightning bolt of genius from Thor himself, accidentally started typing "miek miek miek miek". This, obviously, was comedic gold and he soon told a fresh-faced Kyle Gervais of the typing gaffe. The two ran with it and the rest is rock and roll history.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen... the story of the birth of Michael "Miek" Rodrigue. Oh, we're playing a show or something next Thursday, October 1st. You should come and shit. Don't come and shit, obviously, but like come and shit.

(Zach: "Hey Miek, I hate your stupid bandana." Miek: "This guy's a huge dick, everyone!")

Holy Shit, Boys!

Two big pieces of news! Miek is undergoing a interspecies-transplant operation. He'll now be known as Mierk, the half-man/half-meerkat!

J/k, everyone, j/k. Seriously though, next Thursday is our show at Port City Music Hall, which promises to be a good time. If you don't believe me, then just check this shit out: we'll be playing with Grand Hotel and there'll be inter-set performances by the burlesque ladies from Atomic Trash. Rock and roll and booze and ladies. How can you say no?

I'd like to watch you try. Tell you what, I'll even meet up with you to watch you try and say no.

Oh yeah? Well how about next Thursday, bro? Port City?! I'll fuckin' see you there, buddy!

We also put together a little short docu-film to give you, the customer, a little behind the scenes insight into what goes on at our practices. The Danger Clubhouse, as we affectionately refer to our practice space in Saco, ME, isn't just a great place to store and consume liquor, it also doubles as a venue in which we practice music. Check out the video!

Holy Boys Lack of Updates Club

posted by Zach | 6:11 pm | 9.8.2009

Hey all! Sorry for the lack of updates in the past couple of weeks, but we've been hard at work on a number of different things. Want a run down? Here goes:

1. First of all, thanks to everyone who came to our Boston, New York and especially Portland shows! Each one was awesome and it was super encouraging to see how many people in the Northeast still enjoy rock and roll. We'll try to visit each city again real soon!

2. We've been hard at work on a bunch of new tunes. Well, if you consider 3 a bunch, then it's been a bunch. If not, we'll call it a triple-play. We've been working on a hat trick of new songs. Here's some pictures taken by the lovely Vanessa Romanoff of us tracking at the clubhouse.

3. In other awesome news, we're going to be playing a show at Port City Music Hall with our good friends Grand Hotel! The show is on October 1st and it will be, for lack of a better term, a doozy (sp?). There is a whole lot we can't tell you yet, but expect the unexpected. Not like aliens, or a fake moon landing or something, but you know... take a guess or whatever.

Bonjour! We are super excited to bring you the first HBDC music video, produced by Guy Manly Movies, for the song "Criminal" off our Lessons For Liars album.

Directed by Matt Thompson, this shit is, for lack of a better term, plantains! Or bananas, if you prefer the "hip" terminology. So check it out!

HBDC - "Criminal" from Guy Manly

You can find a bigger version on the videos page. See you in Boston tonight, people!

"Lonely Deer Reindeer Club" - Chuck Gagne

posted by Zach | 12:43 am | 8.23.2009

So, we're only a couple of days away from heading out on our northeast mini-tour and words cannot describe how excited we are to get on the road with our dear, deer friends Dominic and the Lucid.

Well words can try, I suppose. We're elated, twitterpated even, to be playing a trio of shows with those guys. They are easily one of the best bands in Portland, ME, if not the entire Northeast, and we're honored to be sharing a stage/van with them. If you haven't yet checked them out, I suggest you take the time to move your cursor over THESE WORDS to visit their myspace page and listen.

In other news, we're in the early throes of pre-production for our next album, which, if all goes as planned, should be released some time. If you've been to one of our shows recently, you'll know we've got a few new songs and (shhh... don't tell anyone. Come on, be cool!) we should have something new for you to lay your ears on in the next couple of weeks.

For those of you in the Portland, ME music scene, we'll be at the Empire on the 29th and we'd be absolutely delighted if you came out to see us, along with the Lucid and our good friend Erik Moody. I know you'll probably be all rocked out after seeing Ray Lamontagne at the Machigonne music festival, but here's some incentive: $3 off at the door if you bring your Machigonne stub to the Empire. Three whole dollars! C'mon, people. We're in a recession, and $3 means more now than it ever has before and we're passing the savings on to you, the rocksumer! That's just the type of guys we are.

We don't need no stinkin' updates!

posted by Zach | 12:46 am | 8.13.2009

I'm sure that's what you're assuming we were thinking, not updating this thing for almost two weeks. I can assure you we're not that lazy. Well, not THAT lazy.

For those of you in the Portland, ME music scene, Nate's other band, Dominic and the Lucid, played the Alive at 5 show this past Thursday. It was a hell of a show and featured a certain Mr. Rodrigue on one of the tunes. We're currently gearing up for a three-show multi-state mini-tour dealie-yo with Dom and the guys, so look for our names in the arrest records in a northeastern town near you very soon!

In other news, our show at O'Brien's in (bo)Allston on the 26th is coming up quickly, so make sure you clear your night because we have a special surprise for everyone who comes to the show. I would tell you what it is, but I'm going to assume you're familiar with the concept of surprises. So quit asking. (Ok ok... we'll be handing out free *******'s. (Is it bribery if I offer you incentive to come to the show?))

Check out the flyer!

How You Doin'?

posted by Zach | 1:45 pm | 7.31.2009

Ok, everyone. Sit down and be quiet, please. We all want to get home to our kids.

First up... We're going to be recording some new material (3 new materials, to be exact) in the new week or two. Look forward to that.

Secondly, we've added a show date in Boston, at O'Brien's Pub, on the 26th of August with the very cool guys from the Cold Beat and A Hero Next Door. Check 'em out.

Thirdest, Miek has decided to get a tattoo of the Holy Boys Danger Club logo somewhere on his body. In an act defying any sort of foresight or medical logic, we're going to let YOU, the fans, decide where he gets it! Right arm, left butt cheek, taint... it's up to you!

(BE FOREWARNED: He will pretend to know nothing about it and will get all indignant when you ask him about it. Don't worry, he's cool.)

Anna's Ghost Show Not Happenin'

posted by Zach | 12:26 pm | 7.28.2009

Apologies to everyone regarding the Anna's Ghost cd release show, but we WILL NOT be playing. August is going to be incredibly busy for us as it is, and with the show date being changed things were bound to conflict with each other at some point.

I personally blame Ian Riley, drummer for Anna's Ghost. That guy is a big jerk. Big, big jerk.

Also, here's a picture the wonderful Robbie Kanner took of us at The Big Easy on the 11th:

Website Is Up!

Website is up! But you already knew that, of course. Regardless, welcome! We'll be adding a bunch of stuff in the coming weeks, months and moon cycles, but for now can't you just be appreciative that we have a website at all?

Can't you just visit this site without it turning into this big thing? God!
